Disney!

June 22, 2009

Here are a few shots from Disney World. They’re  not edited yet, but seeing as I won’t have access to Photoshop until September really, I thought I might as well upload some now.

This guy was pretty entertaining and a good Jack Sparrow. Kinda reminded me of Cary Elwes.

My mom was proud of herself for getting this shot, until she realized I was the one who took it. Oops.

Black and White

March 14, 2009

I always like to see the difference between color photos and their black and white counterparts, so I often do both. Here’s a few from the most recent batch that I’ve edited. More can be found at my site.

February 25, 2009

Finally edited some of my photos!!! These are some old ones from some animal park we went to last year. You can find more at my deviantArt site. Not much else to say about them really.

Power Track

February 18, 2009

I’m utterly bored, so I thought I’d share some more Cirque lovin’ (that and I still haven’t edited any of my photos. Yay being sick.)
Along with the clowns and the Wheel of Death, Power Track is one of my favorite acts. It was actually my first favorite, back when I saw Alegria. The mix of acrobatics and music is gorgeous and the costumes are pretty entertaining. That, and I wish I could do what they do without injuring myself.

La Nouba, stationed in good old Disney World (now there’s a great partnership) was the second Cirque show I saw. If you go to Disney World, make sure to see this show. Heck, just visit Disney to see the show. Who cares about the rides? It’s so much more entertaining than having it’s a small world after all stuck in your head all day.
While this show also features the Power Track, it’s extremely high energy compared to Alegria’s. The Les Cons (the guys in white) are pretty awesome and appear throughout the whole show, not just this act. The same with the guy in red and the weird one with him.

And keeping with the Power Track theme, but also connecting to some previous posts, here’s a short little montage of Jason Berrent (pictured two posts down). He was the original Trickster in Kooza and was part of the Power Track act in Alegria for awhile.

Treasure Chest

February 9, 2009

For my college writing class, we had to choose something interesting we did over the break and write about it. Since nothing is more interesting than Kooza, that’s what I decided to write about. So here’s my piece. Yay – follow the link to Treasure Chest.

Kooza

February 4, 2009

I had the amazing opportunity to see Cirque du Soleil’s newest touring show, Kooza, this past Friday. It’s the fourth one I’ve seen live, and while Corteo is my favorite in terms of presentation, Kooza has to have some of the most insane acts and definitely my favorite character, the Trickster. He is Cirque’s coolest clown so far, though he’s followed closely by Taras Shevchenko’s White Clown in Corteo. The Trickster had such commanding elegance and was just too intriguing to put into words. He kind of reminded me of something from CATS. Just stick a tail and ears on him and tuh-duh! Found this picture on Google I think. It’s of Jason Berrent, the original Trickster. That’s the main clown, the Innocent, behind him.

The best thing of the night, though, had to be the Wheel of Death, which opened the second act. Do yourself a favor and follow the link, because it is by far the most amazing, insane, exhilarating act I’ve seen. I was so pumped up that my hands were visibly shaking and I could still feel the adrenaline by the end of the show. At some points the audience was screaming, and not the “Yay! You did it” screaming but the “Ah! Please don’t die” screaming. I’ve never seen or heard an audience react this way. It’s now my life goal to meet Carlos Enrique Marin Loaiza and Jimmy Ibarra Zapata. I’m not sure who this is… hard to tell with the make-up.

Way too amazing.

Horses!

January 26, 2009

We had to choose a theme of sorts and stick with it, using a photographer as inspiration. The photographer I chose was Robert Vavra. While my shots are nothing like his, I did take inspiration from him. Not only do I love horses, but Vavra was the first photographer I was ever really aware of and knew the name of, so voila! Pictures of horses for me. Oh, and check out Vavra’s site: Robert Vavra

These two I spotted while driving back to my college after visiting my cousin. They were extremely friendly and curious, but also pretty stationary and intent on just eating. So no pictures like Vavra’s of the galloping horses and flowing manes. So sorry. But here they are:

Even though it’s not in focus, there is something I like about this one. Maybe the fact that they’re actually moving? Who knows.

We had to create a webpage for ourselves in Photoshop so here it is! Any critiques?

Inauguration

January 20, 2009

So we have to post pictures that have to deal with the inauguration and all that jazz. So here are five. Take them as what you will. I’m not saying whether they reflect my political views or not. I don’t want to get into all that. Interpret them how you want. Would have gotten people, but most of my friends were not answering their phones, and those that finally did don’t like getting their picture taken. Go figure. So these more reflect people’s emotions about all of this.

Cliched? Yes. I still thought it was fitting because today was a huge day for America, bringing millions of people together.

Websites

January 13, 2009

Again with homework! This time we had to add links to our five favourite websites. Here they are:

deviantArt Love love love this site. I could stay on it for hours, days even, and never get bored. There’s endless amount of content and the navigation is simple. DeviantArt is home to thousands of artists, from beginners to professionals, using anything from photography to traditional art to tattoo design. There’s a home for any of it on here. I have found some of the most amazing and entertaining things on this site. I even have an account (that’s currently under construction).

Free Rice I’m a huge grammar/English dork so this site is right up my alley. Great during your free time and to test your knowledge. For me, it’s a fun puzzle and logic type thing (yes, again, I’m a dork.) On top of that, all your hard work and intelligence is put towards a good cause, or so we hope. Plus, design-wise, it’s visually appealing.

Pandora I have found so many amazing artists on here it’s not even funny. I love that Pandora will play artists similar to what you like (and I’m amazed it can even do that). Makes things so much more soothing than when I’m listening to XM/Sirius Radio, jamming to my favorite rock song, then all the sudden the Jonas Brothers are coming through my speakers. With Pandora, I can listen to my music in peace. It’s also great for finding musicians similar to lesser known artists such as Clint Mansell and Charlotte Martin.

Cirque du Soleil As I said before, I adore Cirque du Soleil. It’s probably the one thing I’m not ashamed to say I’m obsessed with; I’ve loved these shows longer than I’ve loved Broadway, and that’s saying something. The artistic flair and engaging visuals, synonymous with the company, are brought over into the website. The people at Cirque are experts at knowing what audiences like and pulling them into their fantastical worlds. The site is easy to navigate and provides information on current and upcoming shows. For example, because of this site, I now know to save up all my money for the new touring show that’s to be revealed in April, just a mere 3 months from now.

A7X Fans I was debating between this site and another one to put as my final favorite. I decided on this one because, unlike the others, it is made and maintained by fans of the band, as opposed to professionals. It has easy navigation, plenty of information on my favourite band, and is updated regularly. I often check on here to see if Avenged Sevenfold will be coming through Atlanta or Greensboro on their tour.

And that’s it!
